Joel's grin only grows wider at that and he shakes his head, trying to swat Spencer toward the tree so they can get the lights on. "I'm not sure how many people are actually going to be jealous that you're married to me, but I will keep on trying to make sure every day is something special for you." He'd never thought of the cup of coffee as doing anything particularly special. It's just something he knows Spencer likes, something small that he knows will make his husband's day begin just a little bit better. He's never had the chance to do anything like that before, he's never known if he's the type of person to make little gestures like that, but now that he's here, now that he's married, he does them without thinking. Spencer is important to him and given Joel's insomnia and the fact that he doesn't often sleep in, it's easy for him to make coffee in the morning and have it ready for Spencer.
And he thinks about him all the time. That's the reason he brings up articles he thinks Spencer might like. When they're not together, Joel is often thinking about him. Something he's said that has made Joel laugh or something he's done to make him blush. Something perhaps a little more intimate, a little more private, but not always. Spencer is just never far from his mind and Joel does these things without thinking because Spencer's become such a significant part of his life that it feels natural.
It pleases him, though, it makes his chest feel warm to think something he's doing, something as small as this makes Spencer feel loved and wanted. Because he is. And Joel would very much like to spend every waking moment making him aware of just how important he is, but he knows that's impossible. They have the store, they have friends, they have a baby coming. Their lives are busy and full and they can't spend every single moment with each other, reminding each other that they're loved, so if these little things help, then Joel will be more than happy to continue doing them.
"Especially since you make it as easy as a cup of coffee," he teases as he wanders around the tree with the strand of lights, tucking the bulk of them under his arm as he carefully places them among the needles. He won't limit it to the coffee, not by any means. He already has plans for Spencer's birthday and even if there's no party, because he knows his husband would hate that and would be uncomfortable, he's still been looking into other things they can do, even if it's just the two of them. He's determined to make it special for Spencer, like everything.
"I think you're far more likely to inspire envy, though," he says and he knows Spencer won't agree with him, but he also knows it to be true. Maybe there are still people in Siren Cove who are awful to him -- Eli Jasper is more than enough proof of that -- but there are just as many people who seem absolutely taken with Spencer. People who think he's kind and brilliant and he's sure there are more than a few who find him just as handsome as Joel does. He doesn't worry, though. What they have is strong. No one can come between them.
