Spencer gently excuses himself from the mostly one-sided conversation he's having with a very enthusiastic woman named Margie, one of Ellie's dear friends who seems to have an endless supply of entertaining stories about a young Joel, as soon as he sees Davin awkwardly poking at the sandwiches on the other side of the room. He promises her that he'll find her again later before she finally seems to accept the fact that he's not going to give up the idea of walking away, and he steps toward his friend with a quiet sigh of relief.

A quick glance over his shoulder shows him that Margie has set her sights on Joel now, and he makes brief eye contact with his husband as he tries to contain his laughter--poorly, at that--before turning back to Davin. "You made it," he says in lieu of greeting, reaching for a sandwich of his own. "Thank you for coming, up until now it's mostly been middle-aged women quizzing poor Erin and trying overly hard to show how comfortable they are with the fact that Joel and I are married men."
