The reminder of his reaction to the whiskey makes him hide his face against Joel's shoulder, muffling his groan even as it turns into a mildly amused laugh. So much of the world had been new to Spencer under the spell and in many ways, it'd been a surprisingly delightful experience to get to have so many firsts again when it'd come to food and drink. His first cupcake, in particular, had been comparable to reaching enlightenment, Spencer is sure of it.

With a shake of his head, he gulps down the rest of his whiskey to prove some point, though he's not certain what that point might be, and tilts his head back just to gaze at his husband for a long moment. He bites down on his lip, internally debating whether or not to do what he's thinking before deciding he absolutely should because right now, everything feels so perfect and right. Spencer takes Joel's hand, tugging him toward the desk that's pushed against the far wall of the library. "I was going to wait until later to give this to you, but I suppose now is as good a time as any," he says, and he knows that sounds awfully suspicious but Spencer doesn't plan on drawing this out for much longer.

With a sheepish smile, he pulls one of the desk drawers open to retreive a frame that he hadn't bothered to wrap because what's in it is very familiar: the shells they'd exchanged in the palace library the evening of Joel's birthday. Spencer remembers never having felt more loved in that moment until they'd finally shared their first kiss in the carriage, and he holds the frame between them now, cheeks flushing even though he knows he has nothing to be embarrassed about, not when he's alone with his husband. "So we never forget," he explains, though he knows either of them ever could. "In this world or any other, we'll always be together. I'll always love you."

He pauses then, a faint smile playing at the corners of his lips. "I had big plans for your birthday, you know," he muses softly, tracing a finger along the outline of the blue shell Joel had given him over the glass. Spencer is being honest, too, he'd made arrangements through Mira to sneak into the planetarium after hours so that he and Joel could share a picnic dinner under the stars without any chance of interruption. "I'll have to make it up to you soon but at least the spell didn't make a mess of everything."

He knows that seeing Amy alive and well again had been a struggle for his husband when they'd come out of the enchantment, of course it had, it'd been something as unexpected as having been raised by a father had been for Spencer; but as with everything else, Joel is right. No matter what this town throws at them, no matter how much of a struggle they go through, they'll be able to get through every last bit of it together.
