"We do," Joel murmurs, but that doesn't stop him from kissing Spencer deeply, parting his lips with his tongue and leaning heavily against him. They're perfectly capable of restraining themselves when they have to, but they've just so rarely had to that Joel thinks he's possibly forgotten how to do it. Spencer is right here and he's warm and familiar against Joel's body. While the two weeks they spent in the fairytale world hadn't been the worst thing that could happen to them -- other people had it far worse, he knows that for a fact -- it does strike him now and then that something could have happened to prevent them from meeting. Had he not gone sailing that day, Spencer wouldn't have saved him. Or had Spencer not been able to find a witch to give him legs, their story would have ended there. Today, in this moment, he's trying not to give much thought to what Les has said to him, that clearly Nerium is responsible, because that weighs heavily on Joel. He's trusted her with things, he's thought of her as a friend, and when he thinks about the possibility of her having taken Spencer away from him, little fingers of ice begin to make their way into his heart, closing off the parts that he'd allowed her into. He'd forgotten just how easy it was to have a friend betray him.
He doesn't want to think about it now. He doesn't want to think about where they might all be had Davin not killed that dragon and broken the spell. He doesn't want to think about the possibility that he and Spencer might not be preparing for the birth of their child at this moment because those memories had all been wiped from their minds. They found each other again, that much is true, and he'll never stop being grateful for that, but their entire lives had been altered. Their histories, their memories, even their families, and it makes Joel angry if he thinks about it for too long. This is his life and it hasn't been perfect, he's made mistake, but it's still the life he's led and he wants to remember that. All of what he's been through has made him into the man Spencer loves and anything that takes that away from him isn't something he ever wants to deal with again. It's impossible for him to forget completely, given everything that happened, given the consequences that are sure to follow, but he doesn't want to think about it now. Not while he's kissing his amazing husband at their baby shower.
"I love you very much," he murmurs a second later, nudging his lips against Spencer's as he speaks. "And I'm very much looking forward to later in case you can't already tell." His hips roll at the same time, making it terribly obvious just how much he's looking forward to it. He's probably going to have to sit with a plate of food on his lap for the rest of the shower at this rate, which he didn't imagine was going to be very subtle, but that was just what Spencer could do to him. With a look, with a smile, with anything. He sends Joel spiralling down into a world where he'll do anything Spencer asks of him and he can't say he minds very much. It's an awfully enjoyable place to live.
"But unless we both want to get our asses kicked by my mother and then by Erin, I think we should probably head back out," he says reluctantly. He wouldn't put it past either of them, not given how tough they both are, and while Erin is also endlessly sweet to them, he thinks there's probably a limit to just how much she's willing to put up with and that limit had probably been reached about ten minutes ago or Ellie wouldn't have come looking for the two of them. She's doing so much for them, going above and beyond what's required of her through their contract, and Joel feels like they've made a real friend in her, too. He has no doubt that their baby is going to grow up knowing her, knowing he or she can always trust her. That's something he hadn't expected going into this, but he's certainly glad they've found it now. She was more than just the right choice for them, she's clearly the perfect choice.
"Besides, I want more of those bottle shaped cookies before they're all gone," he teases, then nips lightly at Spencer's full lower lip. "Isn't that the entire point of this party? Presents and cookies that someone else made for us so we didn't have to do any of the work?" They have a clean up ahead of them, but that's something they can worry about after they fulfill their evening plans.
