Corry is overseeing the hanging of the main velvet curtain above the stage when he calls. It's lush and red and everything a grand theatre should have and if she's honest she can't wait to take Les behind it and... that thought is cut short by the ringing of her phone and she waves to the crew that she's taking a call.
"Joel!" She's been busy scheduling interviews all week for potential hires but Corrine wants to keep things local as much as possible. However much she desired to leave it behind as a child, there are certain charms and quirks to Siren Cove that outsiders would never understand. "Thank you so much for calling me back."
She can note the nerves in his voice and makes hers as comforting and warm as possible. Les has spoken highly of him, but they've never had much opportunity to interact and she hopes her call was not too unsolicited. "I hope you've adjusted back to reality. I keep expecting to see fairies flying around back stage." She laughs. "Never a dull moment here."
Joel actually does laugh at that and he runs his hand over his hair. "I was a prince, believe it or not. With a palace and a whole star-crossed lovers sort of thing going on with Spencer." It really hadn't been all bad. He needs to stop by to see Caden and he's sure he has to have a discussion with Coop, who is probably feeling terrible for all that's happened right about now. And there had been Spencer. Nothing can be wrong when Spencer is there.
"So you, um... you said you might need someone to build things for the Waterhouse?" he asks and he knows there's a hopeful lilt to his voice, but it does sound fun. "I-I'm pretty good at building things and I do love it, but between the store and the baby, I might not be able to help out full time, if that's okay."
Corrine lets out another laugh. She wonders if they were all turned into star crossed loves and grand stories during those days. For once it is a Grimhilde plot she could get behind and she only wishes she could have seen the stories of some of the others. "Yes, it was mostly the same for Les and I. A prince may love a mermaid, but where would they live?" She smiles at the memory, of their meetings upon the rocks learning about one anothers world. Of his mother gifting her legs. Of the beauty of the Ball as they rediscovered one another. "Also, his wombat turned into a princess, but that's another story."
"I did." The smile is evident in her voice. " The remodel is mostly complete, but I'll need a set designer. Purely a part time basis, it will only be a few times a year when new shows are in development. But it should be quite rewarding work."
"And I did hear rumors of a baby shower. Congratulations Joel."
He flushes deeply and for the first time in his entire life actually grateful to be on the phone instead of speaking to someone in person. At least this way she can't see how red his cheeks are under his beard or the happy grin he's wearing. "Thank you," he says. "We're very excited."
And what she's telling him sounds exciting, too, although Joel doesn't exactly have a portfolio for that sort of thing. "Les has an invitation, so I assumed you would be coming to the baby shower anyway, but um... if you want to see what I can do, I can show you around the house when you're here. I renovated a lot over the past several months and completely did the nursery from scratch. I don't have a portfolio, it's just something I like doing."
