The second Joel sets Dane down on the bed, Spencer becomes convinced that he's forgotten how to speak. It's really not fair, how cute their son looks in that holiday onesie, and maybe it's silly that there are tears welling up in his eyes just at the sight of Dane, but Spencer doesn't care. They're both still relatively new parents, it's only been six months since their baby had come into their lives, so every now and then--which really amounts to a couple time a day, if he's honest--Spencer will get incredibly emotional over how perfect their little family has become. Things had already been incredible just with Joel, just being a husband and knowing he was loved, but Spencer still remembers every last moment of being in the hospital and getting to hold Dane for the very first time. They're the two best days of his lives: the day he'd married Joel and the day their son had been born.

His husband is right, though, Dane's going to burst into tears if Spencer doesn't reach for him in the next couple seconds, so he wastes no more time in doing just that. It earns him a smile, and Dane reaches out to tug on one of Spencer's wild strands of hair that's still sticking out from having just gotten up. He cringes a little at how hard the baby pulls, though he laughs when Dane does before arching a brow at Joel. "He's becoming more and more unforgiving with the hair every day," he says, though he hardly minds it. Dane can pull his hair as often as he'd like, really, and Spencer will always let him do it because it always seems to amuse him. Besides, a happy baby makes for happy fathers, there's been no doubt about that.

There's also the matter of not wanting to cut his hair in the first place. The last time he'd gotten a haircut had been after the incident with Mark Fuller, and Spencer knows it's irrational, but he doesn't want anything that has to do with his son to cross paths with what he associates with Mark.

"I love you," he murmurs softly in Dane's ear, pleased with the little gurgle he gets in return, and he presses a kiss to the baby's cheek before setting him down in his lap. "And I love you, too, Mister Waters-Baker. Here I thought your gift was bringing Dane to me, now you're telling me there's more? Dane, are you hearing this? Your daddy is spoiling us rotten." He scoots closer to his husband so he can lean in to brush his lips against Joel's, letting them linger there for a moment before breaking back into a smile. "Maybe we can admit to ourselves that we're both impatient but if anyone asks, we'll blame it on the baby. We've got a few years of being able to do that, we should take full advantage of it while we can."
