Joel nods, still looking down at his hands. "I went after him. Mark had him tied to a chair and his hand... his fingers were broken. He'd been beaten. And seeing him like that, Emily," he looks up and his eyes are wet again, but mostly he's furious. He's not a danger to anyone in Siren Cove, no one has any reason to be afraid of him, but he'd stopped himself from killing Mark for Spencer's sake and Spencer alone. "Seeing him like that, I wanted to rip Mark apart."

He's never wanted to kill someone before, never had the thought even cross his mind, but even now, he wants it. It comes and goes, but more than anything, he wishes Mark was dead.
