The only reason he reaches for Spencer's computer instead of his own is that his is already turned off and inside his messenger bag that's sitting behind the counter. All he wants is to check what the weather will be like for the next few days, if it's still supposed to rain, because he'd really like to be able to move some of his books over to Spencer's house as soon as possible, but he doesn't want any of them to get wet. They're not really on any sort of schedule to get him out of his apartment, so he's not too worried, but that's all he wants. Just the weather.
He's lucky the store is empty. It's only an hour before close and he's been thinking about turning the sign over early anyway. It's been an exceptionally slow day and he doubts anyone is going to come in over the next hour, but Spencer seems engrossed in organizing one of the shelves near the front and since Joel is more or less content to just watch him, he hasn't suggested they close early just yet.
Spencer is the only person in the store right now besides himself and it's a very good thing, because when Joel pulls up a browser to check the weather, what he gets instead is an eyeful of a video paused a very inopportune moment. He squints a little, tilting his head, reconsidering. Maybe a very opportune moment, he's not quite sure, but only because he doesn't think he's ever seen a person bend that way.
It's not the only video, though. There's about eight tabs open and Joel knows he shouldn't, he knows this is private and he's completely invading that, but he starts to click through the tabs without thought. Some videos are a little more than he thinks he'll be able to handle ever, but others are actually kind of appealing and his gaze flicks up to where Spencer is standing, his back still turned, and Joel finds his cheeks flushing deeply.
When he reaches out to turn the laptop off -- without having looked at the weather, he realizes -- he hits the wrong button and the video in the tab that's currently open begins to play. For a moment, Joel had been convinced he might get away with this, he might not have to admit to Spencer that he's seen all the research he's been doing, but as soon as the grunts and moans begin to echo -- literally echo -- in the empty store, he knows he's been caught.
"Uh," he says, scrambling frantically for the button to turn the video off or at least turn the volume down. "I was just looking for the weather."
